Singapore World War 2 (Part 3 End)

Finally, the bus drove us to City Hall and the tour guide told us that this is the place where it was declared as the "WAR IS OVER"! The Union Jack flag is flying high up in Singapore again! The Japanese flags are all removed and some even burnt away the flag as the civilians are not happy with the Japanese!

Everyone welcome the British back to control Singapore again! They cheers as the Japanese and the British signed agreement to stop the war and handed over to the British again.

The civilians cannot believed that the 3 years plus long war has over and everyone start a new life again as it is not the same as compared to last time.

Finally the tour guide issued us a Certificate that we had completed the journey of the war tour!

From this tour, I had learnt a lot of things and to me, it is the most valuable lesson that I had learnt and we should not treat peace for granted and we should not give up so easily.

Most of all, we should not waste our food and we should be thankful to our forefathers who fight for us and what we have today.

Singapore World War 2 (Part 2)

After visiting to the Kranji War Memorial, we board the bus and head to Old Ford Factory. We also carry out by queuing up for food ration at Old Ford Factory.

From here, we could able to find out the life during the Syonan-to (Japanese changed Singapore name) and the cruel part which the Japanese troops did to the civilians.

We had about 20 minutes own tour to tour around and also understand how the war make people life difficult and the precious treasures which the surviver donates to the museum so that it can pass to the next generation.

After that, the tour guide gather everyone of us and share with us the importance things during the war. Soon, the tour guide call us to walk behind the backyard and queue up for our ration food and using the Japanese Banana Money which is $10!

One by one, everyone is queuing up and being questioned when we collect our ration food. They asked, are you Hainanese? Do you have tattoo? If you fall within the category, you are being watched or you are able to get the ration foods. Sometime, you might being torture by the Japanese!

Finally, it is my turn, they asked me if I am Hainanese and if I have tattoo, I replied No, I showed them my Ration card and give them Japanese Banana Money $10.

They are pleased and gave me food. I got my food which is showed below.

After everyone finished their rations, we are heading for our lunch which is at Queen way.

The bus drove past Alexandra Hospital and the tour guide told us the cruel part which the Japanese troops did! Alexandra Hospital used to be British Military Hospital. On 14th February 1942, the Japanese troops killed about 50 staffs and patients and the next day, they killed another 150!

We did not stop over at Alexandra Hospital due to time limit, thus, we stop over at ABC food center at Queen way. We got about 45 minutes for our lunch.

Soon after we had our lunch, everyone back to the bus and we are now heading to Bukit Chandu which simply mean Opium Hill.

It is about a Malay warriors whom fight against the Japanese troops! They are the people who do not surrendered to the Japanese and fight against them to get the freedom.

They succeeded killing the Japanese troops as they (Japanese) pretend they are from the British Army and march in four soldiers. But the Malay Major is very clever and observed that the British Army only march in three and not four, so he asked his men to fire the Japanese!

But as the day goes by, they are lack of firing bullets and the necessary food items. They have the choice of either surrender to the Japanese or fight against the Japanese.

Soon, the japanese captured the Malay warriors and humiliating them till they die in front of them so that the Japanese can take over Bukit Chandu!

We salute you for having the fighting spirit! Your fighting spirit make us reminded that no matter what happen, we should not give up and fight against the odd. Who knows, the victory will be ours!
